The objective of this orientation research paper is to detect the changing nature of Malaysia’s newsroom in the leading media organizations in Malaysia. The objective is to identify the latest news gathering methods especially in the rapid advent of technological changes and its impact on the processes of newsgathering inside the newsroom. Thus, this paper shall track and identify the impacts from the digital advances in ICT development and the converging nature of newsrooms in Malaysia. Like all over the world, local print and broadcast newsrooms are undergoing rapid transformation. The media organizations are facing one of the toughest challenges and most of these organizations have realized that they either evolve and innovate or fail in their aspiration to meet the demands from the market and their competitors. In the news gathering environment, the latest techniques are most crucial and all journalists are obliged to have the necessary skills which would make them better equipped to face the demands of journalism in the new media. The editorial policies of each media organization may be varied according to their media systems and philosophies but the current newsroom culture depends on the technological transformation of the news media organizations. The researchers use a questionnaire designed to determine the internal dynamics of the newsroom in several news organizations in Malaysia such as TV3, Bernama, NTV7, TV9, RTM, NST, Sin Chew Daily, Berita Harian, Malaysia Kini and other local media organisations. From the early findings of the research, we can detect that they are using latest technology inside the newsrooms such as the cell phone, Yahoo Messenger, BlackBerry Messenger, mailing list and even the latest social communication system, known as “WhatsApp”, an application for android phones. It is ideal for connecting with people and sharing media.
